Su Baloglu is a filmmaker and researcher with a BA in Film Studies from Carleton University and an MA in Film Production from Istanbul. Currently a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto’s Cinema Studies Institute, she studies private media and family archives through theories of the everyday, interpretive autoethnography and phenomenology of spectatorship. Her dissertation focuses on the home movie archive as mediated personal history and investigates the personal as a site of evidence.

Professional experience: working as an independent filmmaker and producer since 2014 under Su Film and YN Films. Her most recent credits include the short film Mamaville (2020--Oberhausen Short Film Festival & Sarajevo Film Festival International Competition), the documentary film Under the Trees (2022) which premiered at Documentarist Film Festival, and found footage essay film Istanbul Childhood Around 1990 which is currently in production.
